start.js and profile.js: when these files may be part of MAYUNDO

Finding a file called start.js or profile.js does not automatically mean malware is present. These names can occur in legitimate projects. What matters is observed behavior and links to other indicators.

Relevant associations

In the analyzed MAYUNDO scenario, the investigation correlated scripts, .lnk shortcuts, Windows Script Host, directory context, persistence and hidden legitimate content. A coherent combination of indicators provides stronger evidence than filename matching.

What not to do

Do not run an unknown script to “test” whether it is safe, and do not delete every JavaScript file on the computer. indiscriminate deletion may break legitimate software or destroy evidence needed for investigation.

How to assess it

Record the full path, the source drive, when the file appeared and any relationship with unusual shortcuts. Check an up-to-date scanner report and look for automatic execution. If suspicious, save the report before remediation.

ANTÍDOTO approach

The V1.6.3 engine looks for behavioral relationships before increasing classification severity or taking action. This is intended to reduce false positives and protect legitimate files sharing similar names.
